Although RTA is based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's four works, The Story Girl, The Golden Road, Chronicles of Avonlea and Further Chronicles of Avonlea, writers of Sullivan Entertainment have rewritten the story and created a brand new one. Characters and some events were based on the Montgomery books, but the story follows a Sullivan line.
