Overview
Road to Avonlea (also known as just Avonlea
or RTA) is a Canadian TV series produced by Sullivan
Entertainment led by a director and producer called Kevin Sullivan.
It is based on the work of Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery,
author of the famous novel Anne of Green Gables.
Set on Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.), Canada between 1903 and 1912.
This series follows adventures and friendships of residents of Avonlea. Road to Avonlea was produced between 1989 and
1996 and ran for 7 seasons. It has 91 episodes altogether and was on air in 140 countries and millions of viewers around
the world watched it. In 1998, two years after the series finished, a Christmas reunion
movie was produced, featured almost every main character.
Although RTA is based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's four works, The Story Girl, The Golden Road,
Chronicles of Avonlea and Further Chronicles of Avonlea, writers of
Sullivan Entertainment have rewritten the story and created a brand new one.
Characters and some events were based on the Montgomery books, but the story follows a Sullivan line
.
